And nearly three-quarters of total restaurant visits are at fast-food and other chain restaurants. Experts believe that more “away from home” eating can contribute to excess weight. People generally underestimate calories when eating out, particularly high-calorie foods. With fast-food eating, the key is to make infrequent stops and healthier choices, such as a side salad with low-fat dressing, grilled items, and water or unsweetened tea.
